6/05/2010: WIP: "Felinid"
Had this idea kicking around in my head for a couple of weeks now, been throwing out quick doodles of it in my sketchbook. Got
inspired a while back when I saw photos of the Egyptian Hairless Cat. This is a cat that has gone so far past what most decent
societies would call ugly that it has come full circle around to handsome...kind of the "Sam Elliot of the Feline kingdom..."
This sculpt is still in its infancy, as I have not yet begun to approach how wrinkled this creature can get. Will post more soon...
Work continues apace, spent the day trying to sort out a good scheme for all of those characteristic wrinkles. Feels rather stylized so
far, but a fun direction to work in. May try something completely different tomorrow. Got some more research to do.
Finally got a chance to work on it again after a brief hiatus. I am really digging the direction it is going now. Satisfied with the overall
form, I am planning on taking this into a retopology situation. This is screaming for sss shader treatment and what have you. Stay tuned.
Well, got back to it after a long hiatus with other projects on the site. Finished the retopology of the zbrush mesh in Maya, reprojected
the surface detail of the sculpt to the optimized maya mesh, and will now move on to uv's and paints. This is the part I have been looking
An update at last! Been working through the process of generating sss color maps in ZBrush and constructing the shader for it in Maya.
Also spent a good amount of time creating an appropriate eye for this monster. The results have been worth the headaches so far.
I am very excited to see how this piece has evolved.
